Veneer that goes into the press wetter than it should be gives you a panel that delaminates later — sometimes at the customer.
Moisture is checked. But the reading is rarely recorded against the batch, so when a complaint arrives there is no way to look back at what actually went in.
Moisture, glue batch and press cycle attach to the panel batch as it is made. Eight unknowns became zero.
Panels come out of the press and get graded. Some come out below the grade the order was sold at.
That is a real cost — the panel is sold cheaper or held for another order. But downgrades are counted, not analysed, so nobody knows which press, which core, or which shift produces most of them.
Grade out is recorded against press, shift and core batch, so a fourteen percent line stands out immediately.
Logs and veneer arrive, get stacked, and wait. Some of that waiting is necessary. Much of it is nobody deciding what to use first.
Older stock sits behind newer stock, quality drifts while it waits, and the cost shows up much later as a rejection nobody connects back to the yard.
Intake date travels with the lot, so the oldest usable stock is the obvious one to pick.
