Where on the machine do your breaks actually happen?

Where on the machine your breaks really happen. Which grade is generating your broke. How long reels wait between the machine and the truck.

One mill logged forty sheet breaks in a month. Twenty-one were in one section, on one shift pattern, at one grade. Nobody had put them side by side.

Three mills. Each one counted the breaks and never located them.

01 The break that stopped the machine

A sheet break stops the machine, wastes the reel in progress and costs an hour to thread back up.

Breaks are counted. Where on the machine, on whose shift, at what grade and speed is usually not, so a recurring cause is treated as bad luck.

Sheet breaks by section, one month
Wet end9 breaks
Press section6 breaks
Dryer section21 breaks
Reel4 breaks

Each break is logged against section, grade, speed and shift on the same screen the operator already uses.

02 Broke, and where it comes back from

Rejected paper is repulped. That is normal and it is also a cost, energy, chemicals and capacity spent twice on the same fibre.

The broke percentage is known monthly. Which grade, which run, which section generated it is not, so the number never moves.

Broke generated by grade, one month
Grade A4.1%
Grade B4.8%
Grade C13.2%
Grade D3.6%

Production and broke are recorded per run and per grade, so one grade stops hiding behind an average.

03 Reels waiting to be cut

Jumbo reels come off the machine and wait for the rewinder, then for cutting, then for despatch.

Each wait is somebody else's queue. Together they are most of the time between making paper and shipping it, and nobody owns the total.

One reel, machine to despatch

Waiting for rewinder3.8 days
Rewinding and cutting0.8 days
Waiting for despatch2.1 days

When a reel is complete, the next stage sees it. The queue is ordered by age rather than by who asks.

A break is an event. Forty breaks in a pattern is a problem you can fix.

Every reel. Every batch. Every order tracked.

This is how a print job moves through your business. Clicarity gives you live visibility at every phase, and flags delays before they become client calls.

Questions from paper mills businesses

How does Clicarity work for a printing business specifically?
Clicarity is configured around your specific print workflow, pre-press, printing, finishing, dispatch, in your terminology. Every job gets a unique ID and moves through your defined stages. You see live status, timestamps, and alerts when a job sits too long at every stage. The Clicarity team builds everything for you. You go live in 5 days.
Does it work for both offset and digital printing?
Yes. Clicarity works for any print process, offset, digital, wide format, screen printing, or a combination. The stages are configured around your actual workflow. If offset jobs go through plate making and digital jobs skip that stage, both can be tracked correctly under the same system.
Can it track material wastage at each stage?
Yes, with the Multi Licence. At every stage, your team logs quantity in and quantity out. Clicarity calculates the loss automatically. You see wastage by stage, by job, live, not at month-end when nothing can be done about it.
Will my press operators actually use it?
Yes. The update screen has two fields. Job ID and status. Under a minute. No training needed. GP Offset's entire team was using it from day one, including floor workers who had never used a software system before.

See every reel. Every break. Before the order is short.
