Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Indian PIN codes.

What is a PIN code?
A PIN (Postal Index Number) code is a 6-digit number used by India Post to identify a specific delivery area. The first digit indicates the region, the first two the sub-region, the first three the sorting district, and the last three the specific post office.
What does "Non-Delivery" mean?
A "Non-Delivery" post office is one that does not deliver mail directly — it usually serves administrative or sorting functions. As long as at least one post office under a PIN code shows "Delivery", that area is deliverable. Mail is routed through the delivery post office.
Is this PIN code data official?
Yes. Our data is sourced from the official All India Pincode Directory published by the Department of Posts, Government of India. It covers 19,586 PIN codes and over 1,65,000 post offices across all 37 states and union territories.
Why does one PIN code show multiple post offices?
A single PIN code can cover several post offices — typically one main delivery office and multiple branch offices serving nearby localities. They all share the same PIN code but handle different areas within it.
Is this tool free to use?
Completely free, with no login or sign-up required. This tool is provided by Clicarity as a free utility for businesses, e-commerce sellers, and anyone who needs to quickly verify Indian PIN codes.
